Constantinople
• Founded six centuries before Christ as Byzantium, refounded in AD 330 as Constantinople, and conquered by the Ottomans in 1454, Istanbul was the great eastern European imperial capital for almost 16 centuries. Known above all for its exceptional historical attractions, its sites include centuries-old rock hewn churches and grandiose castles. Home to several famous archaeological finds, Ethiopia is also known as the Cradle of Humanity.
